The Nguyen Huu Tien or Truong Xuan Chinh (also known as teacher Hoai, Hai Dong, Hue Lam, Hue Tien, Anh Hai Bac Ky, Anh Hai engineer, Mr. Hai painter, teacher Hai...), born on March 5, 1901 in Lung Xuyen village, Yen Khe commune, Duy Tien district (now Lung Xuyen residential group, Yen Bac ward, Duy Tien town), Ha Nam province in a patriotic Confucian family.

Patriotic poet Pham Tat Dac (1909-1935) was born on 15-5-1909 in Kim Dung village (now belongs to communal Hop Ly) Ly Nhan district, Ha Nam province; died 24-5-1935 in Hanoi.

According to the Abridged Chronicles of Viet, the oldest historical book that still exist:”Year of the Pig, branded Thien Tru, year 7 (987), the King began plowing field in Doi Son, and got a jar full of gold and silver and another one in Ba Hoi mountain. The King named the land “Honeysuckle field” (Kim Ngan field). Next, the “Complete Annals of Dai Viet” complied by Ngo Si Lien in XV century recorded this event, more specific about places:”Year of the Pig, year 8 (branded Thien Phuc) 987. In th spring, the King plowed in Doi mountain and got a small jar full of gold, he plowed again in Ban Hai mountain and got a jar full of silver, so he named it “Honeysuckle field” (Kim Ngan field)”. In the Nguyen dynasty, “Dai Nam Comprehensive Encyclopaedia” book only noted that Le Hoan plowed in Long Doi mountain, got a jar of gold bugget so he called it Kim field, but didn’t mention about plowing in Ba Hoi mountain or Ban Hai mountain.

Ly Thai To’s movement of the capital in the year Canh Tuat (1010) to Ha Nam received both physical and mental support of the Ha Nam people. Since movement of the capital required a lot of manpower and material resources.

225 million years ago, the whole area of Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh and Ninh Binh lied deep beneath the sea. In the late Jurat or the beginning of Bach Phan, a movement made up limestone area in Ha Nam , Nam Dinh and Ninh Binh today. Most of the rocks distributed along the right bank of the Day River, there are very few hills located on the left bank.

This is the period of indomitable struggle of the people and an event occurred deciding the fate of the country. It was the Communist Party of Vietnam’s establishment on February 03, 1930. Ha Nam Province is small but is one of the five most populous province in the North and is located in the center of the North delta. The lives of the people relied on rice cultivation, in the late nineteenth century, there were a number of plantations in Kim Bang and Thanh Liem, mainly growing industry crops and raising livestock. The stone exploration activities also developed. The production of cigars, handmade horn, paper fans, hatching ducks, etc. also started to develop. In Phu Ly, many stalls and shops were set up. Roads and waterways were also formed in the transport system. 1.3% of the population of the province went to school in this period.

In Ha Nam, as of 2001, 30 vestiges and relics of the Dong Son culture out of 400 vestiges of the Dong Son culture across the whole country were discovered, including typical artifacts such as the Ngoc Lu bronze drum and other 17 drums, or bronze situla, bronze axe, bronze age dagger, or a boat grave in Kim Bang, Duy Tien. We can say that the cultural values of this civilization achieved sufficient strength to survive and nourish in the North during 1,000 years; hence when possible, Ha Nam people and the whole country firmly raised to resist the invaders’ aggression to regain the independence of the nation.

The period of 1975-1985 was a period in which Ha Nam together with the whole country implemented the second five-year plan (1975-1980), protected the national borders and gradually eliminated difficulties, developed society and economics (1981-1985). The period of ten years (1975-1985) was a difficult journey for the whole country in general and Ha Nam in particular in the context of complicated domestic and international developments, serious social and economic difficulties, slow production growth, low production efficiency, improper traffic distribution, poor lives, more adverse phenomenon. However, Ha Nam achieved certain significant accomplishments.
