In 1069, King Ly Thanh Tong led the army to conquer Champa. The 5 lakh people huge troop went through Ly Nhan, Ha Nam people were those offered a lot of support and assistance to the imperial army.
Thi Son (Kim Bang) still preserves many stories about the military operations in 1069 and Marshal Ly Thuong Kiet.
After winning Champa, King Ly Thanh Tong sailed through Ly Nhan. The book “Dai Nam Nhat Thong Chi” wrote: “King Ly Thanh Tong conquered Champa, killed Sa Dau, his wife (My E) was arrested, etc.” and when the troop sailed through Ly Nhan, My E drowned in the river. Currently My E’s temple is situated in Ly Nhan.
In the first war against the Nguyen, Thien Mac River is the garrison of King Tran and his soldiers. Thien Mac River is a short river, meeting Nhue River at Gie Bridge, flowing through Phu Xuyen, Hoa Mac, Trac But and then pouring into the Red River. The strategic retreat in 1258 passed through a number of locality in Ha Nam. Ha Nam people in many regions actively participated in, facilitated and made material support to protect King Tran. The food store at Tran Thuong, Nhan Dao commune was a testament.
In the second war against Nguyen (1285) King Tran withdrawn from Thanh Long along Thien Mac river to Thien Truong. On the way of retreat, our army based on key points to ambush the enemy. There are many heroes who sacrificed their lives such as Tran Binh Trong born in Thanh Liem, he replied enemy in a trenchant manner: “I'd rather be a ghost in the South than a king in the North”. Tran Duy Cong, Nguyen Chung Cong and Nguyen Thanh Cong in Binh Luc and hundreds of thousands of anonymous others who participated in the resistance. In May 1285, the first battle in the Red River defense system took place in Ha Nam. The victory brought significant confidence to the national army and people. In 1287 – 1288, Nguyen invaders extravagantly invaded our country again and was again beaten.
In 1400, Ho Quy Ly usurp the throne of Tran Dynasty. In 1407 the Ming Dynasty defeated the Ho Dynasty. The then revolts by Tran Ngu and Tran Quy Khoang won but only lasted until 1413. In 1416 in Lung Nhai, Le Loi raised the flag of rebellion. Ha Nam people joined the revolt with patriotic and fervent hearts. It was Vu Co in Thanh Liem who led the way for Le Loi's army to defeat the enemy in Ly Nhan, facilitating our army to attack and siege Dong Do. That was three sisters A Dao who with their beautiful voices mesmerized Ming aggressors, facilitating our army to kill the invaders. On the land of Ha Nam there are traces on Thanh field between Lien Tuc and Lien Son communes, less than 6km from Co Long where the famous victory against the Ming took place. In 1428, Le Loi defeated the Ming and established the Le dynasty. Through Kings Thai To, Thai Tong, Nhan Tong and Thanh Tong, Dai Viet was prosperous. In those times there were many Ha Nam people got high results in the examination for selection of talented people, beginning with Nguyen Khac Hieu and Tran Thuan Du in 1429.
